Spline Gauges are the best inspection tools to check external and internal splines. This system is an advantage over earlier cumbersome methods of checking spline dimensions. The use of spline gauges not only ensure the quickest process for acceptance of splined components in mass production units but also eliminates the need for skilled hands to inspect the profiles. For the accreditation of ISO 9000 standard by industry, use of spline gauges has become necessary and unavoidable for foolproof and fast inspection procedure for the products.

Spline gauges are broadly grouped on functional basis to check internal or external splines or serrations.
Spline or serration plug gauges to check internal spline or serration dimensions: - These gauges are supplied in sets of ‘GO’ and ‘NO GO’.
‘GO’ spline plug gauge checks effective dimension arrived after consideration of manufacturing tolerance and error allowance on elements like profile, index & PCD runout.
‘NO GO’ spline plug gauge is a sector type of gauge and is designed for checking separately individual elements such as major dia., or space width. For checking minor dia. of internal splines, plain ‘GO’ and ‘NO GO’ gauges are only used.
Involute Spline and Serration Ring Gauges to check external spline or serration dimension:- These gauges are supplied in sets of ‘GO’ and ‘NO GO’.
‘GO’ involute spline or serration ring gauge checks effective dimension arrived after consideration of manufacturing tolerance and error allowance on elements like profile, index & PCD runout.
‘NO GO’ involute spline or serration ring gauge is a sector type of gauge and is designed for checking separately individual elements such as major dia., or space width.
‘GO’ cross-cut ring gauge checks external straight spline dimensions. This checks effective spline width dimension, which is arrived after consideration of manufacturing tolerance and error allowance on elements like profile, index and PCD runout. This can also be combined with checking of major dia. of spline shaft.
‘NO GO’ cross-cut spline ring gauge is a sector type of gauge and is designed for checking separately individual elements such as root dia., or space width.
For checking minor dia. of spline shaft, cross cut ring gauge, similar to the one with relieved splines, is used..
